Mavs’ Jason Kidd Receives Multi-Year Contract Extension
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Mavericks have secured a long-term contract for coach Jason Kidd, extending his deal for multiple years. He was playing on a contract that was set to expire after the 2023-24 NBA season but after an impressive end to the season, there was an increasing expectation of both sides reaching an agreement on a deal.

Mavericks Governor Patrick Dumont expressed enthusiasm for Kidd’s continued leadership, stating, “We’re thrilled to have Coach Kidd at the helm for years to come. His impressive track record, including two playoff berths and a division title, speaks to his exceptional coaching abilities.”

Kidd’s tenure has been marked by significant achievements, including two 50-win seasons and a Western Conference Finals appearance in 2022. His ability to foster a winning culture and motivate his players has been instrumental in the team’s success.

General Manager Nico Harrison praised Kidd’s leadership, saying, “Jason is a consummate professional and a highly effective coach. His expertise and dedication have earned the respect of our players, staff, and the entire NBA community.”

The Mavericks are set to face the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Semifinals, with Game 1 scheduled for Tuesday at Paycom Center. A series victory would mark Kidd’s second Western Conference Finals appearance as coach, further solidifying his reputation as a top-tier coach in the league.

By extending Kidd’s contract, the Mavericks have demonstrated their commitment to building a championship-caliber team and ensuring continuity in their coaching staff. He began drawing interest from the Los Angeles Lakers after they fired Darvin Ham, but this deal prevents such an outcome from occurring.
